Water and sewer rates rise 5.1%

Onsite water recycling systems can help reduce fees and boost water savings

According to Bluefield Research, U.S. water and sewer bills hit a five-year high in 2025, rising 5.1% and outpacing inflation, with a staggering 24.2% cumulative increase over the past five years. With aging infrastructure, rising operating costs, and growing regulatory requirements, there is no indication that this upward trajectory in rates will change anytime soon.

For building owners, this makes onsite water recycling systems an increasingly smart investment, as reducing dependence on municipal water and sewer services directly shields projects from these escalating costs. By treating and reusing water onsite, building owners can meaningfully cut both water consumption and wastewater discharge, turning what was once an infrastructure expense into a long-term financial and resilience advantage.

WateRuse Ops & Maintenance Training Manual

WateReuse Association launches operation and maintenance training resource with the help of Epic Cleantec

WateReuse, in partnership with the National Blue Ribbon Commission for Onsite Water Systems (NBRC), has released a comprehensive Operation & Maintenance Training Manual for Onsite Non-potable Water Systems, a 174-page resource designed to help water treatment operators prepare for certification in managing onsite water reuse systems. The manual covers everything from biological treatment and disinfection to safety, process control, and standard operating procedures.

Epic Cleantec's Vice President of Water Reuse Operations, Ryan Pulley, is a lead contributor to the manual, working alongside subject matter experts from Austin Water, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, and WateReuse Association. It's a testament to Ryan's deep technical expertise and Epic Cleantec's commitment to advancing the broader onsite water reuse industry, helping to build great systems and grow the workforce needed to operate them.

Friend, did you know?

The U.S. produces enormous amounts of wastewater daily.
Thirty-two billion gallons of municipal wastewater are produced every day in the United States, but less than 10% of that is intentionally reused.
